Configuring Windows NT/2000 PPP Connection


Install Dial-Up Networking

  • Double-click My Computer, then double-click Dial-Up Networking.
  • Click Install.
  • If you do not have a modem installed, you will be asked to install your modem. Click Yes, and follow the instructions in the Install New Modem windows to install your modem.
  • Next choose your modem and click OK.
  • Next you will see the Remote Access Setup window. Click Continue.
  • After the remaining files have been copied onto your system, click Restart.
Add GDEX To The Phonebook
  • Double-click My Computer, then double-click Dial-Up Networking.
  • If this is the first time you've used DUN, you'll see a message that states that your phonebook is empty. Click OK to add a new entry. If you've already installed and used DUN, click New to add an entry for your GDEX connection.
  • Next you'll see the New Phonebook Entry Wizard. Name your new connection GDEX and click Next.
  • Select I am calling the Internet. Click Next.
  • For Phone Number, type your GDEX access number.
  • Click Next and then click Finish.
Configure Your GDEX Connection
  • Double click on MY COMPUTER.
  • Double click on DIAL-UP NETWORKING.
  • Click More and select Edit entry and modem properties.
  • Click the Server tab.
    Dial-up server type should be PPP: Windows NT, Windows 95 Plus, Internet.
    Make sure that PPP LCP Extensions are disabled.
    Under Network protocols, only TCP/IP should be checked.
  • Click the TCP/IP Settings button.
  • Configure the TCP/IP Settings window using the following information:

    Select Server assigned IP address
    Use default gateway on remote network should be checked.
    Use IP header compression should be checked.

  • Click OK.
  • Next, click the Security tab. Select Accept any authentication, including clear text.
  • Now select the Basic tab and click the Configure button. Use modem compression should be checked.
  • Click on the SCRIPT tab. Turn on the Pop up a terminal window option.
  • Click OK.
  • Click OK.
  • Click Close.
Connecting to GDEX
  • Double click on My Computer, then double click on Dial-Up Networking.
  • For Phonebook entry to dial: select GDEX.
  • Click the Dial button.
  • For User Name, enter username@gdex.net.
  • For Password, enter the password for your UserName.
  • Do not enter a Domain Name.
  • Click OK.

After you have connect, you will be prompted to enter your user name and password again.

Enter username@gdex.net for the user name.
Enter your password.
Click on DONE to continue.
